While there are plenty of goods available for those who wish to display their Oakland pride Lake Merritt is rather underrepresented. That’s surprising given the fondness most Oaklanders have for their central park. This series of limited edition souvenirs were created, in part, to fill the void. But rather than attempting mass appeal the souvenirs are meant to show Lake Merritt from individual perspectives.
The souvenir items include: a set of 10 black and white postcards from photographer Rachel Heath’s series, Buildings, Birds & Brackish Water: Lake Merritt On Foot; 5 one-color T-shirt designs featuring drawings made by sixth-graders at St. Paul’s Episcopal School; and a four-color screen print edition entitled Before The Lake There Was Swamp, designed by artist Veronica Graham.
